Academic Coaching Rates & Policies

Rates: Scholar's Secret offers customized, 1:1 academic coaching at rates competitive to those offered by local learning centers and online tutoring services - but whose business models preclude such individual attention. And unlike traditional tutors who often focus on remedial techniques to help students simply pass their classes, Scholar's Secret specializes in that fundamental combination of writing, research, and presentation skills so crucial to great grades and collegiate success. Scholar's Secret offers an initial 30-minute consultation and assessment, free of charge.

Service fee is $50 / hour, minimum two hours, due when services are rendered.

Team project rates are also available upon request.

Scholar's Secret offers a 10% discount off the hourly rate for second (and subsequent) family members. Referral discounts are also available. Ask for details!

Payment Policy: Scholar's Secret accepts cash and personal checks. Any check returned for insufficient funds will be assessed a $20 service charge. Unless other arrangements are agreed upon in advance, payment is due in full when services are rendered.

Established clients may take advantage of coaching by phone. Fees are charged in half-hour increments and are due in advance (if scheduled), at next 1:1 meeting (if "on demand"), or net 14 days (if billed).

Attendance Policy: The student and academic coach are expected to arrive on time at the agreed upon location, either physical place or via phone.

Late fees will be incurred every 10 minutes the student is late: $20 / 10 minutes. Session will be cancelled if student does not show after 20 minutes and $40 cancellation fee will apply. Make-up session will be scheduled.

Cancellations must be done via phone or text at least 12 hours prior to scheduled session. Make-up session will be scheduled.

Sessions cancelled by student or parent without 12-hour prior notice will be assessed $40 cancellation fee. Make-up session will be scheduled.

Overall instructional program will be cancelled after two session cancellations and payment in full will be required.

Service Delivery Policy: Scholar's Secret will meet with your student at the location of your choice: the library, a nearby coffee shop, even your home. Parent(s) are encouraged to observe coaching sessions. If coaching takes place in your home, another adult must be present (i.e. a parent or relative) and the academic coach must be escorted by a family member through the home at all times. If no adult is present, the session will be cancelled and parent or guardian will be notified immediately ($40 service charge will apply).
